Blobs & branches, and such

Looking at the same tree as yesterday (and the same weather-picture, btw), we have another blob-situation (see the post entitled “The North”).  These blobs are very familiar:  pine cones.  They’re small pine cones, but my question is:  why are they only at the top of the tree?  There’s about 14 of them, from where I sit.

The other interesting thing about this tree, is that for the first several years of its life, it pointed up at a crooked angle.  This was partly because of being planted on a slight hill, and probably also because it was just planted crookedly.  But even though it started life at wrong angles, it eventually grew straight—drawn up towards the sun.

…No need to say anything else!
