gift after gift after gift

This is the time of year when we particularly enjoy verses like the one below, when we’ve taken some time to stop and look over the past year of ministry.  There are such wonderful people doing the “servant work” of being there every Wednesday evening, and pitching in to make the kids’ club a memorable and learning experience.  There are young mothers and fathers who are leaders, younger AND older single ladies who already work with kids all day in their “real” job, some who are better at crafts, some at games, and some who are just so good at relating to the age of the kids in their group.  (When we asked the kids once what they wanted, one young lad said he just wanted an adult to spend time with him!)

“…He handed out gifts above and below,
    filled heaven with his gifts,
    filled earth with his gifts.
He handed out gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, and pastor-teacher
to train Christians in skilled servant work, working within Christ’s body, the church,
until we’re all moving rhythmically and easily with each other, efficient and graceful in response to God’s Son, fully mature adults, fully developed within and without, fully alive like Christ.
(Ephesians 4:10-13)
