Do you think of God as having desire? He not only went to such fantastic lengths to restore our fellowship with Himself, but He pursues us, woos us, until we turn to Him in response. To think that He actually yearns over us!
As you begin to worship (as you recognize who God is, or even that He is), and you become filled with awe–what is it that turns that awe into joy? After all, a person could get stuck on fear as they think of God.
God’s love is what came up in a couple of our readings this morning. “Perfect love casts out fear”, and it’s certainly not our love that’s perfect. Nouwen takes a quote from Augustine–“My soul is restless until it rests in you, O God”–and turns it around: “My heart is restless until I may rest in you, my beloved creation.”
Have you ever stopped to think about how God sees you?
As someone He loves.
