There’s such a lovely "Fall-ness" to the day out there this morning: a gusty wind kicking up the leaves, heavy clouds, but the sun coming through from "offstage"–giving a darkish-yellow light. Exciting! Wind always gives that feeling of excitement, don’t you think? And there are still lots of leaves out back to make a delightfully loud "rustling".
Now it’s time to hurry up and make some Cinnamon-Pineapple Muffins: because that’s going to be breakfast. And they’re cinnamon-pineapple to help cover the taste of the flours that still have to be used up (sorghum, amaranth).
Interesting scripture this morning about "entering God’s rest". The Message takes it to mean that we should work hard at obeying, if we want that reward of rest–true enough. But I’m thinking that lots of people need the reminder to "obey by resting"! We send our kids to bed at certain times, but as adults we seem to think that we can keep working (or working at our "play") even if we’re tired. Well, we are ABLE to, more than when we were kids, but it’s not the BEST for us (or for the work that doesn’t get done as well)!
"For all who enter into God’s rest will find rest from their labors, just as God rested after creating the world. Let us do our best to enter that place of rest. For anyone who disobeys God, as the people of Israel did, will fall. (Hebrews 4:10, 11, New Living Translation)
