Officially, Advent is the 4 *Sundays* before Christmas, making the first Sunday of Advent NEXT Sunday, Dec. 3/06. But that would only be 3 weeks and a few days before, and I need 4 whole weeks before Christmas for all my “Advent routines”; so I consider today to be the first Sunday of Advent. It’s actually “Christ the King” Sunday, the last day of the church calendar.
For anyone wondering what “Advent” is:
– it means “coming”
– it’s a time of preparation for Christmas
– As our assistant pastor so aptly described this morning, Advent is like when you’re expecting a “long, lost friend”, and you go to all kinds of preparations to make things ready for him/her–cleaning, baking, etc. The Friend we’re expecting, of course, is God Himself.
