The Wise Men 2
There was one king who studied the prophecies, seeking Messiah; but he only pretended to want to worship Him. Notice it wasn’t this upper-crust of Jewish society, poring through the scriptures to see where he was to be born, who found Him, but Gentiles—wise men from a far country.
Messiah was later to point out how the Jewish wise men (priests & scribes) had a habit of searching the Scriptures, but not finding Him. As our speaker on Sunday pointed out, they were so proud of the fact that they “had the Scriptures”; and Christians today are often arrogant about knowing the Bible.
Knowledge is one thing, but wisdom is another. Perhaps it’s not what you know, but Who you know, through the scriptures.
“Start with GOD–the first step in learning is bowing down to GOD; only fools thumb their noses at such wisdom and learning.” Prov. 1:7, MSG
Do some studying that you don’t usually do; read some verses in a different translation, or check out a commentary (after you’ve considered that verse above!) Or expand the mind that God gave you in some other way: read some poetry, find some new words in the dictionary, listen to a different type of music, etc.
