Tower of Babel

People love to “make a name for themselves”, don’t they?  Not everyone
actively pursues popularity and power, but most people love to create
something spectacular, or say something very relevant and profound (like
here?) “Look what I can do!”

Henri Nouwen suggests that this can actually stem from the fact that we
have rejected ourselves, and so we need others to accept us–we need to
prove ourselves.

People often love & yearn for the spectacular:  miracles, revival, etc.
They want the Big Tower, but God offers the Little Tower–the Cross. He
knows our need better than we do. It’s only the Cross that can answer to
the constant struggle within; we must realize that we are helpless to
help ourselves.

I bet many of you could think of a good verse to go with this!
