awestruck we fall to our knees…

First of all, you know about the scare with The Sister (now out of intensive care).  That same day, a very good friend’s mother passed away.  We didn’t expect to see him at church this morning, but there he was, with his wife and four kids–the three young men joining their parents in the praise team.   And do you know what song they sang?  “You give and take away…  my heart will choose to say:  Lord,  blessed be Your Name.”  He may have been able to do it without tears, but  not The Mom, feeling for him/them.

Next…  the speaker today.  (We’ve been having lots of “guest” speakers, since we’re between pastors–not really guests, because they’re members of the congregation.)  His message was obviously well-planned.  He shared some fascinating testimony about when he & his wife were missionaries, and when he was doing research years ago–going into uncharted valleys, etc.  But the most touching part was about their three sons.  Each of them died when they were little (a muscle disease); two didn’t live long at all, but one survived for 6 months.  Heart-wrenching; and rather matching the previous events (sister & friend’s mother).

His message was about God being Lord of the storm, and how He uses storms in our lives.  And that we should “be still and know that I AM God.”  He explained how we need to accept the 3-legged stool concept of God:  4 legs can stand on flat ground, but 3 legs work better if the ground is uneven.  The three legs are wisdom, power and love.  God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and God is Love.  He is in control of the storm (power), He knows we need that storm (wisdom), and it’s only because of His love for us that He is allowing the storm.

So as you can see, it was one of those days where God’s works among men are just so clear.  Now to remember it all when it’s not so clear!

“Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light
Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night
None can fathom

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You Know them by name
You are amazing God
All powerful, untamable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God!
You are amazing God!!

Incomparable, Unchangeable,
You see the depths of my heart and You love me the same.
You are amazing God.”

You see the depths of my heart…
and You love me the same.

You are amazing, God!

(Sorry for the long posts–TWO in one day!  But after all, we’ll be going away soon for two weeks, and you can have a rest from us :P)
