A sunny, crisp day out there; but is it clear and bright inside? Inside your heart? We tend to “gloss over” when someone wants to confess a fault–we make excuses for them, tell them it’s not their fault, etc. And of course, people do need to be affirmed, but… there is also a need–a desperate need–to just confess and be forgiven.
Lovely melodic tunes and cowbells in the background of this song, but the “hiding place” is not the peaceful hillsides…
Amidst the sorrows of the way,
Lord Jesus, teach my soul to pray…
Let me taste Thy special grace
And run to Christ, my hiding place.
(How often I do have to run back, where I should have stayed!)
You know the vileness of my heart–
(How do You stand me, Lord?)
So. prone. to act the rebel’s part,
And when You veil Your lovely face,
Where can I find a hiding place…
Lord, guide my wandering feet,
Draw me to Thy mercy seat–
I’ve nought to trust but sovereign grace,
Thou only art my hiding place!
How unstable is my heart!
Sometimes I take the tempter’s part,
And slight the tokens of Thy grace,
(How, oh how could I–slight the suffering You endured for my evil?)
And seem to want no hiding place…
But when Thy spirit shines within,
Makes me feel the plague of sin–
And how I long to see Thy face!
‘Tis then I want a hiding place.
Lord Jesus, shine and then I can
Feel sweetness in salvation’s plan,
And as a sinner plead for grace
To Christ, the sinner’s Hiding Place;
And as a sinner plead for grace–
To Christ, the sinner’s hiding place!
(The oh-so-mellow sound of Jars of Clay.)
