It really is beautiful!

A weird thing happened to me in church this morning. (Does it seem like a lot of weird things happen to me? I’m not making these things up!)

I looked up at the stained glass window, the main feature really, in our church. (Here it is for those of you who haven’t seen it–I know some of my lj friends are still around!)

(Wait, that isn’t the weird part… :P) I kept looking at it, and thinking how really huge it is… I guess I’ve been looking at mini-versions an awful lot lately, as pictures on our website and on our facebook page. But the more I looked at it, the more I thought how really beautiful it is. Which led to thinking how truly beautiful our sanctuary is. The more I thought about it, the more I realized how easy it would be to worship the church building…. or at least, to want to hang on to it at all costs. It would be so easy to do everything–all the efforts we spend at our church–for the sake of the church… rather than, for the sake of *The Church*…

“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:22-24)
