not forsaken

I’m really “stuck on” my latest memory verse, it just fits me so well:

“Be strong and courageous and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged by the size of the task, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.” (1 Chronicles 28:20)

Because I have so often felt like something was a huge task, and wondered if I could really do it! Usually they were things around the house–like a painting job, or taking out an unruly hedge outside, etc. The particular context of this verse though, is about God’s house…

Our Tuesday morning Ladies felt like it was kind of a big job for them, to do the latest Community Lunch (even though the food was being cooked for them), after all–only a very few attended the planning meetings, most of them in their 80’s. And last year when we were asked to do the Christmas decorating, it felt to me like a “huge task”–and we had a few more ladies then!

Of course, these are only superficial things, really. I wonder who in our church needs to hear that from God: “Don’t be discouraged by the size of the task”?

    Hi Cathie,
Thanks for sharing the Chronicles verse. It certainly speaks to me as well – Be strong and courageous and do the work!… God is with you. It’s too easy to think we’re doing things on our own and to be intimidated by the task.
Your mention of the Tuesday morning ladies brought a smile. What a special group they are. I certainly enjoyed being part of that group many years ago. Say Hi to them for me.
And if you’re asked to do the Christmas decorating again this year let me know when you’re doing it – if I can make it I’d love to come and help!
