Other people who are doing this “One Word” for the year, have such interesting words! Mine have been quite plain, really. I enjoyed reading over last year’s working of my word “plan”, but “serve”? A good word, but very…. well, ordinary. Plus, it has the connotation of work. Who wants to work!
Most people have a greater need for the word “rest”, but I tend toward being lazy. Not that I feel service is lacking in my life–I do willingly serve my family every day! However, it’s been so long since I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in volunteer work at church, I have a fear that it’s going to be hard to get back into it.
This One Word for the year thing, is supposed to take the place of New Year’s Resolutions. My last year’s word was another one that didn’t really fit for that though, since I’m already one who loves to “plan” things out. Mind you, the sort of opposite working of it (plans being disrupted, finding the proverbial Plan B, leaving the planning up to God), was indeed good for me.
Now to find a verse to go with “serve”. Er, I should say: to choose from among the many verses about it. Not this one though:
“Don’t fear: I am First, I am Last, I’m Alive. I died, but I came to life, and my life is now forever.” (Revelations 1:17)
Lord, help us to truly trust You–the Forever One–with our year. Thank you that You are with us, through everything.
